Amidst the confusion of who will be picked as the chief minister of Rajasthan, the Congress party in-charge of the state, KC Venugopal has said that the party will announce the name by Thursday evening. The party most likely will go with Sachin Pilot keeping his youth image as legislators also back him.

Bengaluru: The Congress that is caught in the crossfire between former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Rahul Gandhi's blue-eyed boy, Sachin Pilot for Rajasthan chief minister post, is likely to announce the name on Thursday evening.

Although sources confirmed that the Congress had decided to go with Pilot, the party in-charge in the state, KC Venugopal denied it.

Speaking to MyNation, Venugopal said, “The Congress has a good choice to choose from - Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot. Both have their own strength and charisma to take the party to greater heights. By evening we will announce the CM candidate."

When asked whether the party will face a backlash for ignoring one of them and also could upset party's fortunes in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, he explained, "These are only assumptions. Both are gentlemen. There is no question of infighting, in case the party decided to go with Pilot, Gehlot will support him and it is vice-versa."

The BJP has already warned the Congress of protests if it ignores people of the state due to infighting. The BJP unit has already tweeted stating that, in 2019, Rajasthan voters will again choose Narendra Modi as Prime Minister.
