New Delhi: Banking services will be hit on January 8 and 9, as a section of PSU bank employees will go on strike. This is after two national bank unions came out in support of a nationwide strike called by Central trade unions.

Ten central trade unions, including the INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, AICCTU, UTUC, TUCC, LPF and SEWA, have called for a nationwide bank strike on January 8 and 9 (Tuesday and Wednesday) to protest the anti-worker policies of the Centre.

National bank unions, All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees' Federation of India (BEFI) informed the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) of the two-day nationwide strike on January 8 and 9, 2019, IDBI Bank said in a filing to the BSE.

In a separate filing to the BSE, Bank of Baroda said that in the event of the AlBEA and BEFI proceeding with the strike on January 8-9, 2019, the functioning of bank's branches/offices in some of the zones may be affected.
