Toddler falls off escalator in Bengaluru metro, breathes her last in hospital (Video)

An 18-month-old girl was being carried by her grandfather on escalator when he lost balance, resulting in the child falling through a gap next to the escalator. The child suffered a 50-foot fall to the ground.  

Bengaluru: A toddler fell from an escalator on to the road at Srirampura Metro station in Bengaluru. The child Hasini fell from a height of 50 feet. She was put on ventilator at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health. The incident occurred at 8:15pm on Sunday. According to latest reports the child has succumbed to head injuries at NIMHANS hospital in Bengaluru.

She was referred to National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) for further treatment as her condition was critical.

One-and-a-half-year-old Hasini was the daughter of Jayachandra from Prakash Nagar in Bengaluru.

Accompanied by her grandmother, her grandfather was carrying Hasini on his left arm while moving down the escalator. Unfortunately, her grandfather lost his balance and Hasini fell through a gap beside the escalator from a height of 50 feet on to Mahakavi Kuvempu road where vehicles were moving. She fell in front of a two-wheeler. However, the motorist applied brakes just in time. The severely injured Hasini was taken to KC General Hospital.

As there was a lack of ventilator facility in the hospital, she was referred to Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health and then to NIMHANS for further treatment where she breathed her last.
