Three civilians including a teenaged girl were killed after the Army opened fire at stone-pelters in south Kashmir’s Haworah locality in Kulgam district today.
Civilians identified as Shakir Ahmed Khanday, Irshad Majeed and a teenaged girl named Andleeb died of their injuries in the hospital after clashes in Redwani village where the army was on a survey.
Sources on the ground said the troops resorted to firing after the group started pelting stones at them while they were passing through the area.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a senior Hurriyat Conference leader who is under house arrest, said on Twitter security forces had fired “indiscriminately” at protesters and accused them of “massacre”.
Protesters blocked roads in different parts of south Kashmir and authorities switched off the mobile internet in the region after the deaths.
