India goes tough on Rohingya infilteration: Family of five from Myanmar arrested in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have taken Rohingya refugees from Myanmar into custody in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Vizhinjam police on Tuesday evening arrested the five-member family and questioned them. They said they had reached the state's capital Thiruvananthapuram by train from Hyderabad.

From the railway station, they came by road to Vizhinjam. Much earlier, the intelligence agencies had passed on the secret information about the possibility of Rohingya refugees sneaking into Kerala.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that all the states including Kerala have been asked to collect data relating to Rohingyas as they have moved to different parts of the country.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has issued a warning to its units in Kerala and Tamil Nadu in this regard, along with a list of 14 trains on which the refugees from Myanmar are likely to be moving to the state with their families.

After this, the railway protection force tightened the vigilance at the railway station. They are combing all trains arriving here from the north-eastern states.

The police have adopted special security in Aluva and Perumbavur areas. They are collecting information as well about Rohingyas from those places in Kerala where they have come to work.

Rajnath Singh had earlier said that all Rohingyas in India were illegal immigrants. The home ministry clarified its position through its affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that these people are illegal immigrants and they will be deported. 

Singh said that they did not follow the required procedure to gain refugee status. Rohingyas have not applied for it and India will not provide shelter, Singh said.
