A Tamil Nadu couple’s wish to go for home birth with the assistance of YouTube videos turned into tragedy as the mother died after delivering a healthy baby.

Krithiga, a 28-year-old school teacher, lost her life due to excessive bleeding after delivery at home. Her husband has been arrested.

This shocking incident happened on 22 July but was not known to anyone till health inspector V Bhoopathi lodged a complaint in this regard in Tiruppur police station on 24 July.

According to reports, Krithiga went into labour on 22 July. Her husband Karthikeyan informed his friends Praveen and his wife Lavanya, who rushed to the couple's house. The trio watched YouTube videos and proceeded accordingly, without any medical assistance.

Karthikeyan and Krithiga had decided to opt for natural birth at home and before delivery, the couple had watched videos related to childbirth.

A baby was delivered safely, but Krithiga did not survive after she suffered heavy bleeding. Reports also stated that Krithiga was rushed to the Tiruppur government hospital that night itself but was declared brought dead.

This is the second baby of Karthikeyan and Krithiga. The first child, a girl, was delivered in a hospital, and is now three years old.

Impressed by home remedies and treatments, the pair had decided not to visit any doctor when the second pregnancy was confirmed.
