Synopsis

The accused persons were also reportedly planning on disrupting Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations to be held next week (September 13)

Coimbatore police have arrested  five men for allegedly plotting to kill Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath, his son Omkar Balaji and party spokesperson Mookambikai Mani.

The five accused - Jaffer, Ismail, Shamshuddin, Salavuddin and Asik - had arrived in Coimbatore on Saturday to attend the wedding of a convict, Mohammed Ajam, who was out on parole. Based on a tip off from the intelligence report that the accused would attend the wedding, the police swung into action and arrested them on Sunday evening under unlawful activities (prevention) act.

Five sickles were reportedly seized. The five men are also said to have connections with the ISIS outfit based out of Jammu and Kashmir. 

The accused persons were also reportedly planning on disrupting Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations to be held next week (September 13).
