Zakia Jafri’s plea against Gujarat high court’s verdict giving a clean chit to Narendra Modi with respect to 2002 Gujarat riots to be heard by Supreme Court on November 19.
Delhi: Former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri’s widow, Zakia Jafri’s appeal challenging the Gujarat high court verdict giving clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other politicians and bureaucrats involved in the 2002 Gujarat riots would be heard by the Supreme Court. The hearing will take place on November 19.
The then chief minister Narendra Modi, and around 59 others including politicians, senior police officers and bureaucrats were accused of being part of the conspiracy that started the riot. The special investigating team (SIT) gave a clean chit to those accused, the lower court upheld this. This statement was then challenged by Zakia Jafri at the Gujarat high court. The court refuted her plea in October, supporting its stance using the SIT report. In her plea, she had asked for a fresh investigation on the case.
