Patna: A defamation case was filed against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi by a lawyer in Muzaffarpur, Bihar after he claimed that Gandhi’s statements in Germany have portrayed India’s image in wrong light.
Advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha filed a criminal complaint against Gandhi against his statement that the reason behind terrorism in India was unemployment.
Ojha said that his statements holding Indian culture responsible for violence against women ‘tarnished and lowered the image of India’ globally.
The complaint, filed under various sections of the IPC, read, “He (Gandhi) deliberately made such statements with an intention to create tension in the country”. The charges are punishable by imprisonment of two to three years, a fine or both.
A hearing will be held on September 4.
In his address in Hamburg, Germany, Gandhi attributed incidents of lynching in India to ‘anger’ resulting from ‘joblessness’ and also blamed joblessness to the emergence of terror bodies like the ISIS.
