New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Mumbai has ordered the attachment of five properties of controversial Islamic televangelist Zakir Naik. He is facing serious charges, including links with terrorists and was declared a proclaimed offender by the court recently.
"The special NIA court has ordered the attachment of five properties located in Mazgaon area of Mumbai belonging to charge sheeted absconding accused Dr Zakir Naik, in a case," the NIA said.
"Owing to a pending non-bailable warrant against accused Dr Zakir Naik, the NIA made a request to the special NIA court to declare him a proclaimed offender. On 15th June 2017, the court issued a proclamation under section 82 of CrPC against Dr Zakir Naik," the NIA added.
The five properties of Naik that the special NIA court has ordered to be attached are a shop at Crystal Residency, two flats in Jasmin apartments and two flats in Maria Heights.

In January, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) made a formal request to Malaysia to deport Naik. He is also facing a probe for issuing a hate speech that is believed to have motivated the terrorists who attacked Bangladesh capital Dhaka in 2016. His NGO, Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), has already been declared an unlawful association by the Indian government.
