New Delhi: By raising an issue that Sikhs are emotionally attached with, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu might well have walked into a trap laid by Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). According to a news television channel, the ISI has plans to exploit the sentiment of Sikhs in India to ensure a virtually open border through which, along with pilgrims, terrorists can pass through to foment trouble in Punjab all over again.
Located in Pakistani Punjab’s Narowal district, Kartarpur gurdwara is built on the historic site where Guru Nanak, founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus, settled and assembled a Sikh community after his missionary travels. The gurdwara is built where Guru Nanak is said to have died.

They said that it is Pakistan and the ISI playing the old Khalistan card, which has already created enough trouble in Jammu and Kashmir.
All that the Pakistani head gave Sidhu was verbal assurance. He was then putting pressure on the Indian government saying that the onus is now on India who should take it up with Pakistan.
The letter exposes why Pakistan might be eager to open a corridor to Kartarpur Sahab Gurudwara on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. The note alleges that a supposed pro-Khalistani outfit, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which supports Punjab’s secession from India, is planning to “brainwash” Indian Sikhs who visit Kartarpur for Guru Nanak Jayanti.
The note reads, “International human rights group Sikhs for Justice which is advocating a secessionist campaign for the independence of Punjab through its legal advisor announced that it will campaign to garner support for Referendum 2020 during the 550th celebration of Shri Guru Nanak Devji birth anniversary at Kartarpur Sahib.
Guru Sahib’s message and philosophy of raising voices against the tyrant government of the time is what SFJ will carry to make the global Sikh community aware that the Indian government is responsible for genocidal violence against the Sikhs, stated legal advisor to SFJ. Sikh community is facing extermination in India and we are seeking a peaceful resolution of the issue through a referendum in Indian held Punjab”.
Pakistan backtracks
Taken aback by the expose on Indian media, Pakistan on Wednesday said that there was no formal communication with India on the Kartarpur Sahib corridor.
