Centre has put a cap on at least 700 essential medicines, made medicines available at low prices for people through various health schemes
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government has revolutionised the medical sector in last three years, making it affordable and accessible to people of all strata.
On December 3, Chandrika Misra had asked what the government had done for the medical sector.

To that, the Ministry of Health replied with a series of tweets.
In the Twitter thread, ministry of health has explained the achievements of the government in the medical sector.
Accordingly the Centre has capped prices of around 700 essential medicines and also capped prices of stents. It has funded to work on critical drugs to treat Cancer and heart disorders. The government has also made these medicines reachable to people through various health schemes.

This rule has been made effective under Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Violation of this is a punishable offence.
We are also pushing towards generic medicines. In this regard, also recently issued a draft gazette notification making it mandatory for pharma companies to carry the generic name of drugs, at least in 2 font sizes larger than the brand name, on packs.

With Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the cost of medical services will come down leading to reduction of out of pocket expenditure.

The government is promoting various schemes helpful to people from poor economic background through Ayushman Bharat scheme.
With an aim to make quality medicines available at affordable prices for all, particularly the poor and disadvantaged Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras have been opened, where costly medicines are available at a minimum price.
These Janaushadhi Kendras have become popular and have helped many people battle diseases as they can afford the medicines easily.
