Modi govt signs suspension of operation pact with 2 Kuki militant groups

Synopsis

The Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement was signed by the central government with the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People's Front (UPF) of Manipur.

New Delhi: An agreement to ensure peace in the Kuki-dominated areas in Manipur has been signed by the Centre with two militant groups of the community, officials said on Tuesday.

The Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement was signed by the central government with the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People's Front (UPF) of Manipur.

The suspension of operation by the security forces will continue for one more year till August 31, 2019, a home ministry official said.

The two Kuki apex militant bodies as well as several other organisations of the community are demanding a separate Kuki state out of Manipur.

Many cadres of the KNO and the UPF are currently putting up designated camps set up by the government in different Kuki-dominated areas in the state.
