Mere rain or drizzle will not be taken as cause to declare holiday anymore. The announcement requested schools to exercise extra caution in declaring holidays and inform the government before granting leave.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu government has announced new guidelines for declaring holidays in schools on account of rain lashing in the state. Mere rain or drizzle should not be taken as a reason to declare holidays, said the notice, which was issued to the district collectors.
According to a notice sent by the School Education Department Secretary, Pradeep Yadav to district collectors said, "Schools should declare holidays only in case of severe inundation or flooding in any area leading to paralysis of transport facilities." The notice further stated, “Mere rain or drizzle should not be taken as cause for declaring holidays."
The circular stated that the decision to declare a holiday in schools could be taken three hours before the school opening timings by considering the prevailing situation at that time.
The directive in the circular vested power to the chief educational officers to assess the gravity of the situation and suggest the area and day for declaring a holiday to the district collector.
The holiday may be restricted to the affected areas only. The revenue district need not be the unit of the declaration of a holiday anymore. The educational district, block or any other local body could even be the unit for declaring a holiday.
