Maoists blast mine-proof vehicle of CRPF in Chhattisgarh, killing 4 jawans, injuring 2

Synopsis

The CRPF personnel belonging to the 168th battalion were undertaking an anti-naxal exercise in Awapalli police station area of Chattisgarh when Maoists blew up their vehicle  

Raipur: Ahead of first phase of Assembly election in Chhattisgarh scheduled to be held on November 12, the cadre of an outlawed LWE organisation on Saturday blew up a Mine Protected Vehicle (MPV), killing four personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), leaving two troopers injured in naxal-hit Bijapur district, police said.

The blast took place when CRPF personnel belonging to the 168th battalion were undertaking anti-naxal exercise in Awapalli police station limits. 

After being informed about the bombing, forces were reinforced in the affected area. The injured personnel have been evacuated, police said.

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh visited insurgency-hit Bastar division to kick-off the election campaign for the first phase of polls to be held in 18 constituencies of the eight naxal-affected districts ― Bastar, Kanker Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Kondagaon and Rajnandgaon.
