Kerala floods: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennitala says Pinarayi govt failed to manage current situation

Synopsis

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala says Kerala state government has failed to manage the current situation of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The meteorological department said heavy rains will continue to lash Kerala until August 18. A red alert has been sounded in all 14 districts, while 1.5 lakh people are currently moved to relief camps.

Opposition leader from the Congress, Ramesh Chennithala, asked the government to hand over the rescue operations to the navy in the wake of rain destruction. And he tried informing the same to the CM’s office, but was unable to communicate with the Pinarayi Vijayan.

Ramesh Chennithala also said the situation in Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam is extremely worst. There is no other way out than entrusting navy for rescue, said Chennithala to the media.

"Chennithala has visited many flood-hit areas and helped residents, Pinarayi Vijayan is in power, but is not doing anything for the people. He is collecting relief funds, but people are still suffering," Saraswathi Ramakrishnan, a resident of Eranakulam, said.

Power supply,  distribution of drinking water and communication systems have been disrupted in various parts of the state. Train services have been disrupted and road transport services are in disarray with several stretches under water.

People who wish to help Kerala can contribute to CM’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). Those who want to send essential services like mattress, toiletries, medicines, food grains, furniture, clothes can contact emergency operations centre at the district collectorate. The toll-free number is 1077.
