Thiruvananthapuram: A Pathanamthitta court, on Wednesday, granted bail to Kerala BJP general secretary K Surendran in the Neyyattinkara case. The case was registered against Surendran in connection with an incident involving a tiff with a police officer during the election campaign in Neyyattinkara, a few years ago.
Though Surendran got bail in this case, it is not sure whether he would be released on Wednesday as there are many more cases pending against him.

There are reports that the police are set to keep Surendran in jail for few more days. He was taken into custody from Nilakkal while he was travelling to Sabarimala. He had received warrants in six cases when he reached Poojappura central jail on Tuesday.
The warrants have been issued to take action against Surendran in the cases filed in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts. Surendran was brought to Kannur court from Kottarakara sub-jail two days ago.

He was later produced before Kottarakkara court and later taken to Poojappura central jail. Surendran had demanded to be shifted to Poojappura central jail. However, as more cases are being registered against Surendran, the police may produce him before the respective courts in the state.
Meanwhile, the BJP alleged that the police action is an act of human rights violation as they are not considering Surendran’s health.

"K Surendran is incorrect. The police will give him all the protection possible, because if anything bad happens to him, it would be a political issue that the BJP could use against the government," said Abhijith Mukkam, an SFI activist.
