Jammu: The woman advocate whose career peaked due to the case of alleged rape and murder in Kathua has finally been dropped by the family of the victim for hardly attending the court procedures. The father of the victim, in an affidavit filed before the Pathankot sessions court, where the hearing for the case is going on, said that Deepika Singh Rajawat would no longer represent them in the case.
Rajawat gained not only nationwide publicity due to the high-profile case but also appreciation from Hollywood star Emma Watson. The lawyer went on to win the Woman of the Year award from the Indian Merchants Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s women’s wing.
In a video available with MyNation, the father of the victim said, “Rajawat says she faces a threat to her life in Pathankot, which is why she does not go there for the hearings.”
“She (Rajawat) attended only 2 hearings out of 110. So, we are filling the affidavit (that says she is no longer their lawyer)”, the victim’s father added.
Rajawat tried to make light of the decision the parents of the victim have taken by saying their move betrayed a “human tendency". Taking to Twitter, she wrote,
