Karnataka: Newly wed girl kidnapped on first night, no arrests despite complaint against abductors

Synopsis

The girl is said to have been abducted by Anjukumar and five of his associates from her house in Gudur village, Koppala district, Karnataka.

A newly wed girl was married to her relative Mallanagowda days ago and her 'first night' called 'shobhaana'  was arranged 15 days after the wedding.

But the girl, on the same night, is said to have been abducted by Anjukumar and five of his associates from her house in Gudur village, Koppala district, Karnataka.

In a ritual followed in most of the Hindu communities in Karnataka, a day is set for first night, after marriage, according to auspicious date, time and the advice of astrologers.

The girl's family and groom alleged that the girl was kidnapped by Anjukumar. A complaint has also been filed in this regard at Karatagi police station, three days ago. But no one has been arrested so far.

The complaint mentions the kidnappers as Anjukumar Reddy and his associates. Anjukumar is said to have political connections.

Accused Anjukumar Reddy is a resident of Somanala. However, there are speculations that the girl might have eloped with Anjukumar and that they might have been in love. But her family, as well as Mallanagowda, have alleged that it is a case of kidnap.
