First, checking girl’s photo on phone, and today distribution of wedding invites, the legislators in the Karnataka coalition government headed by HD Kumaraswamy are turning a blind eye to farmers’ woes and have made the Assembly session in Belagavai a farce

Bengaluru: Adding insult to injury on the issue of north Karnataka farmers who are battling severe drought and mounting debts, the legislators in the coalition government headed by HD Kumaraswamy, are seen wasting time either by checking photos of girls or distributing wedding invitations during the ongoing Assembly session in Belagavi.

On Monday, former minister and lone Bahujan Saman Party (BSP) legislator, N Mahesh was checking a girl’s photos and on Tuesday, BC Patil, the close confidante of former chief minister Siddaramaiah was busy distributing his daughter's wedding invitation.

Speaking to MyNation, Mahesh clarified, "It was a mistake. I should not have taken the phone inside the Assembly. I was only checking the photos sent by my friend for a proposal for my son."

Patil is yet to give any clarification as he is still in the Assembly.

Lashing out at the attitude of the government and the legislators, north Karnataka farmers’ leader AP Gurikar said, "These legislators are here only to discuss their personal issues and wind up the session. Our main issues are not taken seriously. Agriculture, cultural, sports and all other developmental activities are ignored."

Echoing similar sentiments, Karnataka BJP unit opined that these days the Assembly session has lost its sanctity as the responsible legislators and ministers either remain absent or just ignore.

"The front bench reserved for the ministers remains empty most of the time. The chief minister will be on a temple tour and the remaining members from the coalition waste time by discussing personal issues, hence the serious issues concerning north Karnataka and its farmers remain neglected," said S Prakash, spokesperson, Karnataka BJP.
