On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation’s tributes to Indian soldiers, who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil war against Pakistan in 1999.

Every year, on 26 July, India celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas, remembering the martyrs, who fought the enemy and succeeded in Operation Vijay.

Indian soldiers battled hard for over 60 days to reclaim the outposts in Kargil, which were captured by intruders from Pakistan. The war ended on 26 July.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is named after the success of Operation Vijay. Functions are organised all over the country to pay homage to the armed forces.

On social media, President Kovind, Prime Minister Modi, ministers, politicians, celebrities and commoners paid rich tributes to the Kargil martyrs.

Here are some of the tweets

President Kovind said, “On Kargil Vijay Diwas, every Indian acknowledges the efforts and gallantry of our Armed Forces. We salute the ultimate sacrifice of the martyrs of Kargil, and record our everlasting debt to their families #PresidentKovind.”
