Jammu: A young Gujjar man was beaten up by members of the family of a girl whom he had married.

A video of the assault on the youth has gone viral on social media. The video is from the Raj Bagh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district where a Gujjar youth named Shokat Ali married a girl Zeelo Bebi without the consent of her family in a court on August 14 this year. When the couple reached their native village on August 15-16, the family of the girl kidnapped the couple and tortured both at an unknown place.

The family of the girl has denied allegations of the boy’s family. Feroz Din, the father of the girl, said, “We have taken both the boy and the girl with us, but we later handed the boy over to his family, our girl is with us. We haven’t beaten Shokat Ali.”

The family of Ali has registered an FIR against family of Zeelo Bebi for abducting their son and daughter-in-law.

“The boy came to the police station after we conducted a series of raids on the house of those who were seen in the video. An FIR has been registered and further investigations are going on. We can issue a statement once we reach a conclusion,” a police officer told MyNation.
