Srinagar: The Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik, while urging people not to believe in rumours, on Sunday called for an informal meeting of the state’s administrative council to review the current situation in the region, especially in the context of Pulwama terror attack and the subsequent developments.
The meeting was attended by advisors Vijay Kumar, KK Sharmaand and K Skandan. Moreover, the chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, principal secretary to Governor Umang Narula, principal secretary (information department) RK Goyal, principal secretary (home) Shaleen Kabra and principal secretary (planning and monitoring department Rohit Kansal were also present at the meeting.
The Governor informed the people that the induction of forces is only for conducting the upcoming general elections and not for anything else. He also appealed to the people not to believe in rumours that an extreme step will be taken.
He said that these rumours are unnecessarily creating an atmosphere of fear in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Governor also urged the people to remain calm as Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave very clear information about how to tackle the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
PM Modi in a statement said that there is no fight against Kashmiris but there is zero tolerance for terrorists and it is a fight for Kashmir. Kashmir is an integral part of India and it is the responsibility of the government to take care of the safety and requirements of the people.
Malik thanked the excellent cooperation between the administration and the police of other states to ensure that Kashmiri students do not face any repercussion of the Pulwama attack.
The Governor also re-assured to all government employees and their families who stay in Jammu that their safety and security is of primary importance and nothing will happen to them. He said that the situation in Jammu city is normal and government employees should feel safe to go out for work.
During the meeting, the Governor was briefed about the current security situation in Jammu city and the gradual induction of additional central forces for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Malik was informed that large additional security forces are required to make sure that the elections happen without any kind of disturbances.
During the 2018 panchayat elections, over 400 additional personnel of central police forces were deployed in a total of 13 phases.
In the meeting, it was also discussed how security concerns in the area have increased, especially after the Pulwama attack. Authorities, he was told, are afraid that terrorists might target candidates and voters. However, the necessary steps are being taken to prevent any attack.
