Kashmir: Nation's security forces wipe out 6 terrorists in 2nd biggest anti-terror operation of year

Anantnag: Security forces on Friday gunned down six terrorists in an encounter which broke out early morning in Sekipora area of Bijbhera in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

This is the second biggest anti-terror operation of the year by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. In April, security forces gunned down 11 terrorists in a day, in which 7 terrorists were neutralised in a single encounter in Shopian.

A senior Army official told MyNation that based on specific intelligence inputs, 3 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army along with Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned the whole area and launched a door-to-door search operation. When the forces were zeroing in on the area where the terrorists were hiding, the terrorists fired upon the joint team, triggering encounter in the area.

In the ongoing encounter, six terrorists have been killed so far. Security forces have also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the killed terrorists.

A senior police official, while confirming the killing of six terrorists, told MyNation, "Six terrorists have been killed so far in the ongoing operation in South Kashmir. We have also recovered weapons and warlike stores from them".

Jammu and Kashmir Police said that identities of the killed terrorists are yet to be ascertained.

During the searches, the holed up militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter.

As a precautionary measure, the administration has snapped internet services in Anantnag and Kulgam district of south Kashmir. District administration has also imposed CrPC 144 near the encounter site to avoid civilian casualties.
