Srinagar: The Indian Army has managed to recover a helicopter that got stuck in snow at the Siachen Glacier at an altitude of 18,000 feet after 11 months. The infantry troops have now bought it back to safety in the Siachen base camp.
In January 2018, ALH Dhruv Chopper started malfunctioning while on an air maintenance trip along the glacier. The pilot had to land the chopper around a post called Khanda.
Since then attempts were made to rescue the chopper. However, until the middle of the year, there was no luck. It was only in July that technicians and pilots of the Army managed to installed new parts to the chopper to ensure its safe return
With this rescue, the Indian Army has created a new record. India is among a very few countries in the world which use choppers at such a high altitude.
