Surat: Like every year, a maha aarti was performed at Umiya temple in Gujarat’s Surat on October 17 — the occasion of Durga Ashtami — and thousands of visitors came from across the country to take part in it.
The 1,200-year-old Umiya temple receives hundreds of visitors every day.
It is believed that Goddess Umiya gave birth to the universe and whenever evil forces rise, the devi takes her furious form to protect the world.
In the video, shared by ANI, thousands of people are seen standing in queues and offering prayer to the deity with lamps.
