A case was registered by invoking non-bailable sections for obstructing the police officials from discharging their duties. It has been reported that the SFI members entered into an argument with the police and this led to an argument. The police officials Vinayachandran and Sharat were attacked by the SFI activists.

The police said that the accused were being identified with the help of a video footage of the police surveillance cameras. The four students arrested are studying in Trivandrum University College.

The opposition parties alleged that there is a section of the police having an alliance with the ruling party CPI(M) who are trying to save these SFI members and they will try to stop the investigation and release these SFI members.

The report submitted by the special branch of the Kerala Police has mentioned that the Cantonment police had helped the SFI members to get out of the case.

It is reported that the Cantonment officials were appointed to take these accused into custody. But, they didn't arrest them and they allowed them to escape, on Thursday. The special branch also said that even though they escaped the Cantonment police didn't call the police control room and inform about it.

This is not for the first time that the SFI activists been arrested in the state. Several such incidents have been witnessed in Kerala. As the Left is in power in Kerala, the SFI groups are confident that they will be let off soon, claimed the BJP activists.

"In Kannur, if SFI member does any mistake, they will be taken to the police station and after a few hours, they will be released. But for the BJP activists will be kept in the police station for a number of hours and will even be taken to jail for no mistake of theirs. I personally have faced that," said Arjun K, a BJP activist from Kannur.
