Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has been convicted in four cases of the multi-crore rupees’ fodder scam. He was released on six weeks’ provisional bail in May for medical treatment
Ranchi: Rashtriya Janta Dal president Lalu Prasad Yadav surrendered before a special CBI court in Ranchi on Thursday, upon expiry of his provisional bail, with regards to the fodder scam case.
The former Bihar chief minister has been convicted in four cases of the multi-crore rupees’ fodder scam. After being sent to jail in December last year, the RJD chief had fallen sick and had spent a lot of time at RIMS hospital, Ranchi and at AIIMS, New Delhi. He was granted bail on medical grounds in May this year. Yadav was directed by the Jharkhand high court to surrender before the CBI court by August 30. This came after the court denied to extend his bail after a hearing on August 24.
Yadav was released on six weeks’ provisional bail in May for medical treatment and was asked not to take part in any public function or give any media statement during the period.
The fodder scam cases relate to illegal withdrawal of money from government treasuries for animal husbandry department in Bihar. This was during the 1990s when the RJD was in power in Bihar.
