Donald Trump’s gaffe: Pronounces Nepal as ‘nipple,’ Bhutan as ‘button’

Synopsis

In a claim made by a foreign policy correspondent John Walcott to CNN, United States President Donald Trump made a blunder during a security meeting with intelligence officials in which he referred to Nepal as “Nipple” and Bhutan as “Button” while looking at a map of South Asia

The United States President Donald Trump also thought that ‘nipple’ (Nepal) and ‘Button’ (Bhutan) were different parts of India

In a claim made by a foreign policy correspondent John Walcott to CNN, United States President Donald Trump made a blunder during a security meeting with intelligence officials in which he referred to Nepal as “Nipple” and Bhutan as “Button” while looking at a map of South Asia.

Even more so, he also thought that Nepal and Bhutan were part of India.

This shocking faux pas came to light when the correspondent wrote about the details in a news article for TIME magazine which was published on Tuesday.

Here’s an excerpt:

"...In another briefing on South Asia, Trump’s advisors brought a map of the region from Afghanistan to Bangladesh, according to intelligence officers with knowledge of the meeting and congressional officials who were briefed on it. Trump, they said, pointed at the map and said he knew that Nepal was part of India, only to be told that it is an independent nation. When said he was familiar with Bhutan and knew it, too, was part of India, his briefers told him that Bhutan was an independent kingdom."

According to reports, this intelligence briefing took place in 2017 before Trump met the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

John Walcott, the author who wrote about the briefing, confirmed the incident when he spoke on-air to anchor Brooke Baldwin, who was amused to hear that and said, ‘Wait, seriously, that's what he said?’

Brooke took to Twitter and shared a video with a caption, 'John Walcott @TIME shares his extraordinary reporting out today “'Willful Ignorance.' Inside President Trump's Troubled Intelligence Briefings. Added bonus: how Trump first pronounced Nepal (“nipple”) and Bhutan (“button”).'
