On October 23, Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana were sent on indefinite leave by the Central Vigilance Commission, following a long-drawn feud over corruption allegations
New Delhi: After spending 77 days away from the office, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief Alok Verma is back.
On Wednesday, Verma reached the CBI headquarters around 10:40 AM for a meeting with other officials after the Supreme Court cancelled the government’s order of reinstated him on Tuesday. He is also expected to be present for other meeting over the progress of various high profile cases.
Sources said that he will also visit his another office in North Block.
Verma, who was sent on indefinite leave on October 23 along with his deputy Rakesh Asthana, may also review pending files of transfers of some officers.
Meanwhile, Asthana continues to be on leave.
During the hearing, the government argued that it took the decision amid an unprecedented feud between the two top cops, who levelled charges of corruption on each other.
However, the apex court said that in sending Verma on leave, the government overlooked the immunity given to him ensuring a two-year minimum tenure to protect the incumbent from any political interference.
