Lucknow: As Muslims around the world are getting ready for Bakrid on Wednesday, those in Lucknow have come up with an innovative, 'eco-friendly' way to celebrate the festival.
Animal sacrifice, or 'Qurbani', is common during Bakrid, but the city's Muslims have decided that they will celebrate Bakrid this year by cutting cakes with a goat image.

“The custom of sacrificing an animal on Bakrid is not right. I appeal to everyone to celebrate the festival by cutting a cake instead of an animal,” said a buyer at a bakery.
This year, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has banned animal sacrifice in open and instructed the police to ensure that the decision is implemented on the ground.
“Yes the chief minister has asked to ensure there’s no animal sacrifice in the open. We are not against the ritual. But doing it in open has hygiene considerations and the decision is purely based on that,” health minister of the state, Sidharth Nath Singh had told MyNation.
