Maharashtra: Father-son duo continue to sell half-baked truth behind killing of tigress Avni, claiming that the tigress was killed only as a part of self-defence and to save the forest officials who were being attacked by the tigress.
However, sources have confirmed to MyNation that the autopsy report revealed that the bullet shot on Avni's body traces through her ribs to her shoulder, which discredits Asghar's theory completely.
If the claims made by Asghar and father, Shafath Ali Khan are believed to be true, the self-defence shot to Avni's body must have ideally been present on her face or chest.
After the massive uproar Avni's death has caused, the Maharashtra government has woken from their long slumber and announced that the state has set up a four-member committee. This has been done on the orders of the Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, who has asked for a detailed investigation after he was ridiculed for staying mum on the tigress' death.
The committee is headed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest S H Patil. It will include Wildlife Institute of India member Habib Bilal, Wildlife Conservation Trust chairman Anish Andheriya and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Nitin Kakodkar, the statement said. Kakodkar will also act as the panel's convenor, it said. The committee will probe if established protocols and standard operating practices were followed in the case, and submit a report to the government, it said.
