For Aadhar card, your face must be recognisable, says UIDAI

Synopsis

The facial recognition feature comes as a supplement to the already-existing fingerprint scan or iris scan, for the authentication process

New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made facial recognition mandatory for all services that require Aadhar verification.

This will be implemented by taking on-spot photographs, along with photos that are required for KYC formalities. Aadhar authentication is required for services like banks, mobile operators, public distribution systems and office attendance at government offices.

The facial recognition feature comes as a supplement to the already-existing fingerprint scan or iris scan, for the authentication process.

According to the UIDAI, this step has been taken to increase the inclusivity of the Aadhar programme.

A circular issued by the UIDAI states that failure to comply with this rule will be considered a criminal offence under the Aadhaar Act 2016, punishable by imprisonment or a fine.
