New Delhi: India has asked the United Kingdom to extradite Nirav Modi, who is accused of Rs 13,500 crore loan fraud at Punjab National Bank (PNB).
However, in an interesting detail available, it is said that no one knows where Nirav Modi is nor there is any information available about his travels.
On Thursday (2 August), India's foreign affairs ministry had told the Rajya Sabha that India had already sent an extradition request to the British Parliament.
However, the authorities concerned did not have any explanation for sending the request to Britain, when no one knows where Nirav Modi is.
Speaking in the Parliament, Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh said, "The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has received a request for deport Nirav Modi from the UK. The request has been made by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)."
"The request was sent by a Special Diplomatic Bag to the High Commission of India (HCI), London for onward transmission to the UK authorities," VK Singh added.
The Special Diplomatic Bag means a container or a pouch which includes legal protections used for carrying official correspondence between a diplomatic mission and its home government or other diplomatic, consular, or official entity.
India has revoked Nirav Modi's passport on 16 February.
India has provided this information to the Interpol as the international police agency had sought the arrest for Nirav Modi.
Nirav Modi, his uncle Mehul Choksi are accused of defrauding PNB for years by raising foreign credit using fake guarantees.
