The country's women also played a crucial role in shaking the foundations of British rule, which should not be forgotten. The echoes of brave women have also been included in the freedom struggle. From Rani Lakshmibai to Bhikaji Cama, these fearless women not only dreamed of freedom but also put their lives on the line to make it a reality. On the occasion of Independence Day 2025, let us salute those heroines whose stories still ignite the flame of patriotism.
Rani Lakshmibai fought valiantly, she was the queen of Jhansi. The famous poems written on Rani Lakshmibai still inspire girls to be brave. Rani Lakshmibai was a prominent warrior of the First War of Independence of 1857. Jhansi was taken away under the 'Lapse Policy', but she firmly faced the British and attained martyrdom in the battle of Gwalior.
The queen of Awadh, Begum Hazrat Mahal, also lashed out at the British in the 1857 revolt. By placing her son Birjis Qadr on the throne, she drove the British out of Lucknow. People still narrate the story of the queen's courage and patriotism.
Bhikaji Cama was the first woman to raise the voice of India's independence on international forums. In 1907, she hoisted the first tricolour of Indian independence in Paris. Although she did not shower bullets and bombs against the British, she gave symbolic support to the revolutionaries.
Who can forget the name of Durgavati Devi in the freedom struggle. She is known as Durga Bhabhi, was an Indian revolutionary and freedom fighter. She was one of the few women revolutionaries who actively participated in the armed revolution against the ruling British Raj. Sarojini Naidu, a famous poet and speaker known as 'Bharat Kokila', became the first woman president of Congress. She played an important role in independence. Along with this, she also fought for women's rights.
