Success Story: In an inspiring example of perseverance and purpose, three sisters successfully passed the UGC NET examination on their very first attempt, despite growing up in poverty and facing constant challenges. Their mother works as a daily wage labourer, while their father is a temple priest. Though their means were limited, their parents placed education at the heart of their lives, believing it was the only way to create a better future for their children.
Motivated by this strong foundation, the sisters dedicated themselves fully to their studies, proving that determination and hard work can overcome even the toughest of circumstances. With the exam behind them, they are now preparing to build their careers and support their parents, who made countless sacrifices to give them the chance at a brighter life.
Rimpi Kaur, Hardeep Kaur, and Beant Kaur come from Budhlada, a town in Mansa district, Punjab, an area known for having one of the lowest literacy rates in the state. Despite these odds, all three sisters successfully cleared the UGC NET examination this year, each in a different subject. Rimpi qualified in Computer Science, Beant in History, and Hardeep in Punjabi.
Rimpi, the eldest, aspires to become a professor in Computer Science, while Biant and Hardeep are currently preparing for the Junior Research Fellowship, confident in their ability to achieve it.
Their father, Bikar Singh, shared his joy and pride, noting that his daughters have reached this milestone through their own efforts. The family’s journey has not been without challenges.
To support their education, all three sisters worked at a private school for some time. Their efforts paid off when they cleared the UGC NET, which makes them eligible to apply for Assistant Professor roles in universities and colleges across India. Those who also qualify for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) are awarded a monthly stipend, enabling them to pursue a PhD while continuing their academic journey.
