Karanataka BJP president BS Yeddyurappa criticised the ruling coalition government in the state terming it ‘a sleeping government’. However, he added that his party would not make any attempts to fell the government.
Bengaluru: You may have heard the famous proverb: “When Rome was burning, Nero was fiddling.”
This is precisely what Karnataka state BJP president BS Yeddyurappa used to describe the present political mess the state is going through.
At a press conference at his official room in Vidhana Soudha (secretariat building), the leader of opposition tore into the ruling coalition saying that there was an absence of credibility and responsibility in the state.
Yeddyurappa said, “This is a sleeping government. There is massive drought in the state. As many as 143 taluks (sub-divisions) have not received rains. People are thirsting for water. But our CM is sojourning the United States.”
The senior BJP leader also took a jibe at the chief minister for not living up to his promise of a loan waiver.
“Before coming to power, he (CM Kumaraswamy) promised that he would waive off loans to the tune of thousands of crores. It is based on this promise that his party won 37. But he is not doing anything now. Had he not made this promise of loan waiver, his party would not have won 20 seats.”
However, he made it clear that on the issue of forming government in the state, he was not ready to poach anyone. But he added that if a chance arose, he would not be sitting dormant.
“We are not here to make the government fall. But if the disgruntled elements tender resignation on their own volition, we will surely make use of the opportunity to form a government.”
The BJP leader also added, “We are not for midterm polls. The state can’t afford it. We will sit with the ruling members and find solutions to the existing water crisis in the state.”
But on the issue of Anand Singh, the Vijayanagara (Ballari) MLA resigning, he said, “I don’t know much about it.”
