Day after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that Congress was not in favour of what Veer Savarkar patronised, the Hindu Activist’s grandson, Ranjeet Savarkar defended the BJP and gave a push for the Bharat Ratna

New Delhi: While the BJP is seeking Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar, the Hindu activist's grandson, Ranjeet Savarkar defended his grandfather and said that even former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was his follower.

"Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi honoured Veer Savarkar. I feel she was his follower because she brought Pakistan to its knees, strengthened the army and foreign relations, she also did nuclear tests," Ranjeet Savarkar said.

Ranjeet also added that Indira Gandhi's moves were against Jawahar Lal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy.

Savarkar's grandson also lashed out at AIMIM chief Asadduddin Owaisi for opposing the demand and asked him to follow Savarkar and keep religion in the house.

"Owaisi should follow Savarkar's belief that when you are out, you are not Hindu or Muslim but an Indian," Ranjeet said.

Ranjeet further said that Savarkar expected people who entered the Parliament to keep their caste, religion, sex outside. "You won't find a more secular man than Savarkar," he said.
