Kolkata: In a midnight crackdown in Kolkata, BJP's Delhi unit leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga has been arrested by the police. He has been reportedly arrested around 3 in the morning.

BJP claims, the crackdown was unprecedented as it didn't follow due process of law. BJP's national Information Technology department chief Amit Malviya said, "Mamata Banerjee ordered a midnight crackdown on several BJP leaders in Kolkata, who were picked up in the middle of the night, without due process of law being followed. Tajinder Bagga and several others are now in TMC's illegal detention."

Twitterati erupted in protest, and #FreeTajinderBagga started to trend.

However, the Aam Admi Party which has no stake in Bengal, was quick to insinuate that Bagga must be drowned in Bay of Bengal instead of being arrested, creating more shock among the people. Kapil, a key face of AAP's social media team tweeted, "Don't #FreeTajinderBagga, throw him in the Bay of Bengal for wearing this Pink Teenage T-Shirt."

Bagga along with many BJP leaders like Hans Raj Hans and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are in Kolkata to add a push to its campaign in the last leg of the election.  Though it is unclear under what charges he has been booked, it has been presumed he has been arrested in relation to the violence on Tuesday.
