Remembering how Rajeev Dhawan, counsel for Muslim parties had torn up papers while hearing of Ayodhya case

Synopsis

Here’s a look at how Rajeev Dhawan, counsel for Muslim parties Rajeev Dhawan had torn up papers and maps related to the Hindu Mahasabha in the Supreme Court last October

Bengaluru: Hindus all over the world are rejoicing as Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Bhumi pujan in Ayodhya. It signals the construction of the Ram temple and also the end of a 5-century-long land litigation.

While it is a moment for celebration, let’s rewind to understand how a few have played truant.

Counsel for Muslim parties Rajeev Dhawan had torn up papers and maps related to the Hindu Mahasabha in the Supreme Court last October 16 as the court heard arguments on the last day of hearing.

Rajeev Dhawan was criticised widely for what can be termed an act of hooliganism.

The decorum of the top court can never be violated by resorting to such acts.

Then, the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha had lodged a complaint with the Bar Council of India against Rajeev Dhawan.

In a letter addressed to the Bar Council Chairman, the Hindu outfit had said Rajeev Dhawan's act of tearing up a piece of paper in the courtroom had brought "disrepute to the Supreme Court Bar".

The Mahasabha had demanded that the Bar Council take cognizance of the matter and take immediate action against the counsel who was representing the Muslim parties in the Ayodhya land dispute case that was heard for the final and 40th day.

Today, (August 5) the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation after the historic puja ceremony said that the principles Lord Ram exhibited are universal in nature.

He said, “Lord Rama made social harmony the cornerstone of his rule. He learned from Guru Vashistha, Motherhood from Shabari, Cooperation with Lord Hanuman and Vanvasi brothers, and gained trust from the subjects. He also gladly accepted the importance of a squirrel.”
