MyNation has learnt from reliable sources that GT Devegowda, the Karnataka JDS minister has been offered a party membership by the BJP in view of  the praise he issued on PM Modi and the shaky grounds on which the state ruling coalition stands

Bengaluru: GT Devegowda, the Karnataka higher education minister and JD(S) MLA from Chamundeshwari is a very senior leader. His importance and popularity rose exponentially as he defeated former state chief minister Siddaramaiah in the last Karnataka Assembly election.

Now, he is becoming famous for an entirely different reason. These days, the senior leader is on a spree of eulogising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The latest in the list is the way in which he has exonerated PM Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah of having played any role in the resignations of two Congress MLAs – Anand Singh of Vijayapura and Ramesh Jarkiholi of Gokak.

This comes in stark contrast to the collective statements of the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition members who have squarely blamed Modi-Shah duo for the political turbulence in Karnataka.

As he openly expressed his support for the top honchos of the BJP, MyNation has learnt that R Ashoka, former deputy chief minister of Karnataka has reportedly approached Devegowda with an offer to join the BJP.

“R Ashoka met Devegowda and offered him a senior role in the party and the government. He also offered a post to his son as well. Drawing parallels with Siddaramaiah, he said when he can bring his son and make him an MLA, why can’t you do the same? He also assured Devegowda that if he honoured the invitation from the BJP, he would ensure he joined the saffron party in the presence of Amit Shah,” a BJP source said.

Last year, as BJP lost a chance to form the government in Karnataka by a whisker, JD(S) and Congress formed a coalition. But ever since, their relation has run into rough weather. Though the top brass of the two parties are trying their best to mend fences, the chasms are indeed wide open.

Incidentally, Ashoka and Devegowda both belong to the dominant Vokkaliga community.
