PM Modi has dismissed talks of withdrawing the CAA or the abrogation of articles 370 and 35A.

Bengaluru: Tough as a nail and an epitome of perseverance, PM Modi, in no uncertain terms declared that his government would not roll back any of the decisions it had taken in the last few months.

Addressing a public rally in Varanasi, he said, “Be it the scrapping of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir or the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the country waited for decisions on these for years."

He further added, “These decisions were necessary in the interest of the nation. Duniya bhar ke saarey dabaon ke bawjood, inn faislon par hum qayam hain, qayam rahengey (Despite pressure from all sides, we remain firm on the decisions and will continue to remain firm.”

The Union government took the bold step of rescinding article 370 and 35A last August with the help of a Presidential order. Both the houses of the Indian Parliament ratified it later.

The erstwhile state has now been made into Union territories.

As regards CAA, both the houses of the Indian Parliament passed it and the President gave his assent, which thereby made it a law.

The CAA intends to give citizenship to around 32000 persecuted minorities (non-Muslims) from Pakistan Bangladesh and Afghanistan who have been staying in India hitherto December 31, 2014.

Both the PM and the Union home minister have reiterated that the amendment Act doesn’t snatch away any citizenships, but only grants it.

However, protests have been taking place across the country, with misinformation being spread that it alienates Indian Muslims, although it doesn’t concern any Indian citizen.

Moreover, the matter is presently sub-judice, with the top court to rehear the case shortly.

The PM also had a word about Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

He said, "A trust has been formed for the construction of a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya. This trust will work rapidly.”
