Several regions in Odisha observed thunderstorm and lightning in the last 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued warning for 22 districts of Odisha.
Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm and lighting in Odisha killed 8 people and injured 5 other on the intervening night of June 2 and 3.
While two people died in Koraput, Kendujhar, Jajpur and Ganjam each, two more were injured in Koraput and three in Dhenkanal. The injured people have been admitted to a hospital.

The IMD bulletin stated, “Nor’wester rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at many places over Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Cuttack, Khurda, Angul and Dhenkanal districts along with Bhubaneswar.”
Meanwhile, heat waves prevail in north, northwest and central India, including the capital city of Delhi.
