Kannur: Rape accused Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan's father and CPI(M) Kerala secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has extended his support to Anthoor municipality chief, who has been accused by the relatives of Sajan Parayil in the suicide case.
Sajan Parayil, an NRI entrepreneur, committed suicide allegedly after being denied permit (licence) for his building.
The victim’s relatives alleged that the corporation chairperson PK Shyamala, wife of CPM central committee member MV Govindan, did not provide sanctions to the convention centre due to personal vengeance and thereby issued a notice to demolish the structure.
Just a day after Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had dumped all the blame on officials with respect to Sajan’s suicide, while speaking nothing about Shyamala in the Assembly, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has backed her. As there were reports claiming that Shyamala may step down from her post, Kodiyeri said there is no need for her to resign from the post over the controversy revolving around the suicide of NRI investor.
On June 22, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had refused to accept CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's resignation from the post following the rape and cheating accusations levelled against his son Binoy Kodiyeri.
Sources however said, though the issue could be termed personal, a resignation would help to uphold the dignity of a Communist leader.
Andheri Oshiwara Police have filed a case of sexual assault and rape against Kodiyeri's eldest son Binoy. The incident came to light after a woman, hailing from Bihar, filed a complaint stating that with the fake promise of marriage, Binoy raped her.
