After the Hampi express was delayed by seven hours, several students staged protests demanding a re-exam. While the re-exam was scheduled for May 20, only 110 students have registered.

Bengaluru: Only 110 candidates have registered for the National Eligibility Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) re-exam that has been scheduled for May 20. The re-exam was scheduled specially for the students who missed it earlier due to a seven-hour delay by the Hampi Express.

Reports suggested that as many as 365 students missed the exam due to the delay on May 5. The train that was supposed to reach Bengaluru at 7 in the morning reached at 2.30 pm. The exam was scheduled to begin at 2 pm.

The Indian Railways, however, attributed the delay to the diversion of the train route from the normal route due to doubling of line work since May 3.

Upset about missing out on the exam, students took to Twitter and tagged Union human resource minister Prakash Javadekar.

Students even staged a protest right outside the railway station for missing the test.

Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and many other politicians also urged the Centre to conduct a re-exam for the affected students.

The HRD Minister then announced that a re-exam would indeed be conducted for these students.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) confirmed that an exam will be held on May 20 from 10 am to 1 pm.

Students were asked to submit a copy of the train ticket and the exam admission ticket along with the fresh application. The last date to register for the re-exam was May 10. However, only 110 applications have been received.
