Mumbai rains: Live updates as city battles heavy downpour

21 dead and 78 injured in the incident of the  Malad wall collapse  on hutments in Pimpripada area, due to heavy rainfall.

Rescue operations are underway in Malad East where 19 people died after a wall collapsed on hutments in Pimpripada area, due to heavy rainfall. Chief fire officer says "We rescued a woman, trapped below a body. We used the best equipment, rescue in such tight spaces is very tough"

Six pumping stations of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) pumped out more than 14,000 million litres of water and discharged it into the sea which is more than the combined capacity of the Tulsi and Vihar lake. 

Passengers stranded at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai as 54 flights have been diverted while 52 others have been cancelled.

Two trains cancelled due to waterlogging in tracks

India Meteorological Dept predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and suburban parts in the next 48 hours. A similar situation expected for Vidarbha and Marathwada. Tourists advised not to visit mountain areas since heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Maharashtra.

Western Railways releases a special train between Dadar and Valsad for the convenience of passengers. The Special train will depart from Dadar at 18.25 hrs with 23 coaches & will halt at all stoppages of 59023 MMCT-Valsad fast passenger.

Fire Dept and Medical Health teams are conducting rescue operations at Navghar Mithagar. One person has been rescued and transferred to DM Petit Hospital. The medical team has also visited other flood struck areas, assessed houses and searched for other stranded people.

Western Railway: There's no disruption on Western Railway. Trains are running normal between Churchgate and Virar. Water level has come down on all 4 lines at Nallasopara. Trains are running with some delay due to low visibility due to heavy rains

Local trains operational on Western line. Trains on Central line yet to resume as there's severe flooding there. Work is on to pump out water - Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis says high tide is expected at 12 noon. Situation will be monitored. "Last night Mumbai police received 1600-1700 tweets from people, they received immediate help. BMC Disaster Management worked the entire night. Heavy rainfall is expected in next 2 days. We are prepared for it," said Fadnavis.

Rescue operations underway at #Malad after wall collapsed due to #MumbaiRains. Fire Brigade, with the help of life sensing equipment and sniffer dogs, found a woman and child alive under the debris.
