Bengaluru: In a major setback to the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, the top court of the country has ordered floor test by 5 pm tomorrow.

The top court added that voting will be by show of hands and the entire proceedings will be videographed.

On the issue of sixteen rebel MLAs staying in the city of Bengaluru and their participation, the top court said that if they want to come to the Assembly, both Karnataka DGP and Madhya Pradesh DGP should provide security.

Earlier in the day, Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the BJP said on the issue of the Speaker adjourning the house in the wake of Coronavirus thus: “Corona wasn't there till governor asked for a floor test.

This was done to only avoid a floor test This is all a bogey.

He also spoke on the issue of the rebel 16 MLAs and the impact they would have on the floor test.

He said, “If the 16 turn up and vote against, the govt falls. Even if they don't turn up the govt falls. The govt stays only if they appear and vote for them.”

The background:

The Madhya Pradesh speaker had on Tuesday adjourned the state assembly till March 26, after which BJP moved the Supreme Court. The apex court on Tuesday served notice to the speaker,

Principal Secretary of assembly and the Governor. The plea filed by the party - Shivraj Singh Chouhan vs Speaker NP Prajapati, urged the top court to order a floor test to ensure a stable government in Madhya Pradesh. In the plea, the saffron party has stated that Kamal Nath government has "lack of confidence" and his government has been "reduced to a minority." "It has no moral, legal, democratic or constitutional right to remain in power even for a single day," as reported by Republic TV.
