The Indian Army will be using the new electric vehicles for the use of its officials in New Delhi. As part of the pilot project a total of 10 electric cars will be operated
The Indian Army has started to use 10 electric vehicles (EVs) for its intra city transport requirements. The Mahindra eVerito EVs will be used in New Delhi, and many more electric vehicles will be added to the Indian Army’s official fleet. The Indian Army has earlier also taken eco friendly initiatives.
The eVerito EVs are also part of the fleets used by the Prime Minister’s office and other bureaucrats in Delhi. Some of the state governments also have started to use EVs for their intra city runs.
The Indian Army uses a variety of vehicles including trucks like the BEML Tatra, Ashok Leyland Stallion, Tata LPTA 713, Tata LPTA 2038, Swaraj Mazda T3500, for ground transportation. Reports said that the Indian Army will add more electric vehicles for their officers too.
The aim of the Indian Army is to combat air pollution in Delhi by adopting green vehicles.
Meanwhile, the GST council also cleared the reduction in GST rates of the electric cars that dropped from 12% to 5% from August 1. This is also the first time that electric vehicles are being employed in one of the armed forces.
