Nationalist Congress Party leader Dilip Walse Patil, serving as MLA for the seventh time, has been appointed as Pro-tem Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly.
Mumbai: Latest reports claim that Nationalist Party of India (NCP) MLA Dilip Walse has been appointed as the pro-tem Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly.
Patil was appointed as the pro-tem Speaker today (November 29) ahead of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress) being tasked to prove their majority in the state Assembly.
Wasle is a seven-time MLA of Maharashtra.
The Governor has asked the Maha Vikas Aghadi to prove its majority on the floor of the house by December 3. Sources claim that floor test is likely to be held tomorrow (November 29), but no official notification on the same has been made yet.
Uddhav Thackeray took oath as chief minister of Maharashtra on November 28 at Shivaji Park. Six MLAs (three from Congress, two from Shiv Sena and one from NCP) were sworn in as Cabinet ministers.
Patil was born on October 30, 1956 and is from Ambegaon, Maharashtra.
Patil has served as the Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from November 11, 2009 to November 10, 2014.
Patil was the minister in departments of finance and planning, energy ministry, higher and technical education ministry, and medical education between 1999 and 2009.
Prior to becoming pro-tem speaker, he served as the president of the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF).
