Maharashtra, Haryana election result: Live updates of fate of 2 states

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said, "Before 2014, BJP was always a junior party of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. For 50 years, no chief minister was able to complete the five-year term. Devendra Fadnavis got the opportunity to serve the entire five-year term. Maharashtra and especially Mumbai contribute immensely to the country’s economy. Political stability is important there."

Union home minister Amit Shah addressed the gathering at party's headquarters in Delhi. "Under Modi ji’s leadership, BJP’s expansion and India’s development is guaranteed. I would like to congratulate Modi ji for this victory. I would also like to congratulate Devendra Fadnavis and Manohar Lal Khattar for their victory in Maharashtra and Haryana," Shah said. 

Taking to Twitter PM Modi thanked the people of Haryana and said, "I thank the people of Haryana for blessing us. We will continue to work with the same zeal and dedication for the state’s progress. I laud the efforts of hardworking BJP Haryana karyakartas, who toiled extensively and went amongst people to elaborate on our development agenda."

He said, "People of Maharashtra have given a reality check. People have kept democracy alive. People of Maharashtra have given a reality check to all parties. One thing is for sure that for the next 5 years, people in power would have to work with full credibility and responsibility. Who will be the chief minister, this question is very important. We have decided on a 50-50 formula, we decided on 144 seats each. Whatever formula was decided, according to that we will take steps with full transparency. We will decide who will be the chief minister after talking to the Delhi leadership."

Dushyant Chautala says, "Counting of slips from a VVPAT is underway. As soon as I get certificate, I'll discuss with everyone, hold a meeting with MLAs tomorrow & decide the future course of action. Too early to say anything.I believe state wants change & JJP will bring it."
